Alcohol Detox

Fasting, whether undertaking a juice fast or a water fast, requires knowledge, dedication, discipline,  planning and preparation. This was particularly important for me undertaking my own alcohol detox on my own. The above picture is of the supporting materials I prepared to accommodate any eventualities during my initial 7 day, juice fast, alcohol detox.

In the foreground is three blue satchels of "Body Balance", a full nutrient supplement created from sea vegetables. This was to provide extra support for my body during the initial 3 days of my fast.

Next you see a bunch of bananas and a packet of "Pulse", a raw food supplement created from fruit, nuts, seeds and grains. These were for me requiring additional energy at any time to deal with any untoward side effects of coming off the alcohol.

A little behind these you see two satchels of dried seaweed and sea vegetables. These were to brew a tea or just chew for an additional boost, particularly vitamin B12, which is of particular importance when experiencing alcohol detox.

Behind these again, is a bottle of beer and a measuring container. When attempting an alcohol detox, where the body is physically addicted, generally encompasses the experiencing of what is known as "the shakes" to a greater or lesser degree. It is usually controlled, if necessary, with the administering of Valium. As I was not keen to put chemicals such as this into my body while attempting to detoxify at the same time, I discovered that a more natural means to control excessive shaking (which, in extreme cases can lead to seizures) was to administer certain dosages of beer across three to four hour periods. Thankfully, my "shakes", although quite debilitating for a while, did not require such controlling and, as I subsequently discovered, water is the best for this particular side effect.

To the far left of the picture you see Epsom Salts and Bi-Carb Soda. These were for putting in my extremely hot baths for relaxing my muscles and cleansing my skin.

And finally, to the rear, you see a packet of Australian Natural Salt and a plastic bag. Now, a very important part of fasting is to facilitate the removal of wastes from your body that can build up very rapidly and have the potential of making you extremely sick if not flushed from your system. The problem being, that in a fast, you cease to supply your excretory system with fibre and very quickly cease passing wastes. A glass of salty water is one simple and efficient way of flushing your system. Not terribly pleasant but effective. Another is to administer enemas. And my enema kit is what is in the plastic bag.

So, there you have it, as it turned I did not require some of my precautionary preparations but it is always smarter to come prepared for any anticipated, possible eventualities.

It IS possible to detoxify yourself from alcohol addiction if you have the will, the knowledge, the discipline and desire. Of course, after that, you still have the mental, emotional and spiritual toxicity from the substance abuse to deal with. And, I believe, these are also all within your grasp if you have a strong enough desire. As the Buddha says:

"Find Your Own Salvation"
